Owner: Athanasios Dokas

On August 30th 2013, Athanasios Dokas and his son Anthony opened The Gourmet Greek Grill Spot, a restaurant that serves authentic Greek cuisine from the Dokas’ home country. Serving college students, corporate workers and families, Dokas explained, “No matter who you are, when you come into our store you are like a guest in our home.”

Signature Dish: Homemade Fusilli Amatriciana

Owner Antonio Cervasio opened Spumante restaurant 10 years ago as a “toast” to Italy. Cervasio came to America 30 years ago and opened his first restaurant at age 18. Cervasio is proud that Spumante restaurant is family owned and that the main crowd is families. Spumante has available banquet rooms where events from Sweet 16’s to wedding receptions can be held.

Signature dish: San Cocho- Also known as Spanish Soup Dominican Restaurant owned by Gustavo Hernandez is known for its large portions of authentic Dominican foods. Hernandez has owned the Dominican Restaurant for 5 years. Hernandez explained that the authentic restaurant attracts mostly Jamaican and Haitian customers.

Akbar restaurant exists in Garden City, New York City, and Edison, New Jersey. Akbar was originally modeled after the Grand Mogul Emperor Akbar. The owners, pride themselves on preparing authentic Indian cuisine using century old methods. Akbar was the first Indian restaurant on Long Island. Akbar offers a variety of services including a lunch buffet and banquet halls for hosting parties.

Jamaican Bickle is a small, casual restaurant owned and operated by workers of Jamaican descent. Hofstra University students often utilize the dining services because of the close vicinity. The Jamaican Bickle offers low price specials, including a $5.50 lunch special. The Jamaican Bickle offers a wide variety of Jamaican food that is available for dining in or take out.
